The Florida Authors and Publishers Association has purchased a booth at the 2015 BookExpo America in New York City on May 27-29, 2015. BEA is the largest book and author event in the country, and the best place for new titles to be discovered.

Members of FAPA can have their books displayed in the FAPA booth for $150 per title. Only 100 titles will be accepted. Ads in the FAPA Display Catalog can also be purchased for as little as $25 by authors displaying their books.

Deadline for books to be submitted and for ads in the catalog is April 15, 2015. For details on BEA and to join FAPA, visit the FAPA website.

Finding Other Markets for Book Sales

In our class on Niche Markets we teach authors to get creative in finding other places besides book stores where they can sell their books. Jane recently did a book signing at the CostCo in Altamonte Springs, Florida; and Frances was a vendor at the World Golf Village Farmer’s Market. Both venues provided good visibility for their books, as well as additional sales. Next class on Niche Markets at UNF is June 10.

FAPA Spring Conference

FAPA-LOGOThe Florida Authors and Publishers Association 2014 Spring Conference will take place next Saturday and will focus on ways to market and promote your book. Keynote speaker, Peggy DeKay, will talk about “Author-preneurship – the 21st Century Approach to Writing a Book, Building a Platform, and Creating Multiple Streams of Income.” Frances Keiser will be a part of a panel discussing “Endorsements, Reviews, and Awards.” Round table discussions will finish out the day with “Making Social Media a Part of Your Business Plan.” The event takes place in Orlando at the NOVA Southeastern University from Noon to 5:00 pm on March 8. Book Award Submissions Announced

The Florida Authors and Publishers Association has announced a Call for Submissions for its 2014 President’s Book Awards. Books published in 2013 and 2014 are eligible. Authors and publishers may submit books in 31 different categories. Winners will be announced in August at the FAPA Fall Conference.

Book Awards are a great way to increase visibility and credibility for your book. They will also enhance your marketing efforts and can lead to increased sales.

Becoming a vendor at a holiday show or festival is a great way to connect with shoppers looking for gift ideas, while increasing visibility for you and your books.

Jane recently participated in the “Christmas Made in the South” event where she not only sold her books, but connected with many young readers, and talked to numerous educators who are interested in scheduling an author visit to their schools.Christmas in the South 2013

Media Coverage Tips for Authors

Bloodsworth_DorisDoris Bloodsworth, Pulitzer-nominee reporter and veteran journalist of the Orlando Sentinel, Wall Street Journal, and Bloomsberg News, reveals the elements of an effective media release, how to pitch the media, tips for a successful interview, and how to make the most of your media coverage, during her talk, Tips From the Pros on Media Coverage for Authors. “Getting the right media coverage can be the tipping point for book sales and instant credibility as an expert.” says Bloodsworth.

This FREE event by the Orlando Florida Writers Association at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 is taking place at the University Club, 841 N. Park Avenue, Winter Park, FL.

The trip from the Jacksonville/St. Augustine/Palm Coast area is well worth the drive for this event. Winter Park is a lovely town about an hour’s drive from St. Augustine, filled with marvelous restaurants where you can dine before or after the event.
